The Southington Republican Town Committee is pleased to announce our 2011 slate of candidates.
In the 2009 election the Republican slate brought in several fresh faces with new ideas, and we are excited to continue the momentum we have created over the past two years. During this time we have taken issues head on as a team, and have created realistic resolutions.
2010 began with a new Town Manager for the first time in 5 decades. After an exhaustive national search, a strong candidate was hired that fit the town’s specific needs. Now our new town manger is shining bright by bringing our technologies up to speed and working with all aspects of our town government to improve our community.
Next, Team Republican introduced an innovative plan for North Center School, a plan that will not only provide a better location for our Board of Education, it will free up buildings for further uses while saving the town $1.6 million.
Then we were submitted the smallest budget increase in over 10 years, despite numerous unfunded state mandates, and we were able to maintain a record low Mill Rate increase without laying off any Teachers, Police or Fire personnel.
We look forward to the opportunity of having two more years to continue the progress we have made, and we are proud to submit this year’s slate of candidates:
Town Council
Board of Education
Planning and Zoning
- Paul Champagne
- Jim Macchio
- Greg Klimaszwski
- Steve Kalkowski
Board of Finance
Water Commissioners
- Erik Semmel
- Michael Domian

Governor Malloy presented his proposed budget to the General Assembly back in February. His speech is the first part in a long process to pass a budget. Many of you have called and e-mailed me to ask questions, or express opinions and wondered how you can get involved.
One of the best opportunities you have to understand the process and voice your opinion is through a public hearing. On Tuesday April 5th, The Appropriations Committee will hold public hearings at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford to explain the budget process.
I encourage you to submit testimony or testify before the committee and become part of the process. Please visit the General Assembly's home page and click a date on the calendar to find a schedule of hearings.
If you are unable to attend the hearings in Hartford, they are broadcast on CT-N.
To thumb through the proposed budget click here.
As always if you have any questions on the budget or how to participate in the budget hearings, please call me at the Capitol. My office is happy to assist you.
Sincerely, Senator Joe Markley |
