I've been a Southington resident for twelve years. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Communications from University of Hartford in 1987. After graduation, I started my own business, National Supplement Warehouse, a vitamin/supplement company that grew to 9 retail stores with catalog sales and an e-commerce division after 16 years. NSW employed 38 people. I am now a sales executive at Prudential Connecticut Realty in Southington, and a member of the Southington Republican Town Committee Executive Board. I have two children and enjoy volunteering in coaching their youth sports. With my background running a business I know how important it is to focus on keeping costs low. I feel it is my responsibility as a member of the water board to make sure the residents of Southington are not only getting the safest, cleanest water possible but they are getting it at a reasonable price. Now more than ever, we have to research every possible avenue to ensure residents that we are operating in a financially responsible manner. However, planning and infrastructure maintenance are areas that need to be carefully monitored. Most residents of Southington, myself included, take it for granted that when they turn on their faucet, clean, safe water will flow. Since SWD meetings are not publicized, most people don’t realize the commitment and planning that occurs on this board. Once I realized I wanted to get involved in our towns political arena, I researched quite a few different commissions/boards. The Board of Water Commissioners was the obvious choice at this time. |
